Sheila and Roger Limbrey

Who are we? And where did we come from?

Sheila was born in Wigtown but left in her teens to spend three years in Hong Kong, after which she lived in various places in England. Roger comes from Hertfordshire but lived in Birmingham and various other UK locations before we met in Leamington Spa. Since then we spent almost ten years in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico and Jamaica), returned to live in Sussex for a while and moved to Newton Stewart in 1989.

We brought up our family in Leamington Spa, the Caribbean and Sussex. Now we have a son in Worthing, a daughter in Brussels and another daughter on the north east coast of Scotland near Elgin. We are 450 miles from either Worthing or Elgin and Brussels is easier to get to. The three of them are all caught up in environmental careers one way or another.

What were we doing in the Caribbean? Roger is, or was, an agriculturist or agricultural engineer or rural engineer, depending on who needed his services. After a career servicing and marketing farm machinery he spent 20 years as a consultant to UN agencies and other clients on projects in the developing world. Now, in semi-retirement, most of that is a fading memory but hopefully it helped a few people.

Making our home in Newton Stewart for the last twenty years was a good move, especially as it got us out of the congestion in South East England. And opening our home to B&B guests has proved to be a most gratifying experience, making us many new friends along the way.
