Newton Stewart is a market town in the heart-land of Galloway, lying on the A75 highway (Euroroute 13) 50 miles (80km) west of Dumfries and 25 miles (40km)  east of Stranraer, the main Scottish ferry port for Ireland. To the south lies the Machars with the old County Town of Wigtown, the historic early Christian centre of Whithorn and coastal harbours at Garlieston, The Isle of Whithorn and Port William. To the north are the Galloway hills and the Galloway Forest Park astride the old road to Edinburgh.

Oakbank is located on the corner of Corsbie Road and Viewhills Road, on the west side of Newton Stewart and next door to the Douglas Ewart High School.

Coming from Dumfries or Stranraer on the A75 Euro-route: Leave the A75 at the roundabout on the Newton Stewart By-pass, drive into the town, past the cattle market until reaching Dashwood Square. Turn into the square, then immeditaly right into Jubilee Road which soon becomes Church Street; pass the parish church and the bowling green; then second turing left after the bowling green - Corsbie Road - and we are the last house on the right before the school with the sign "OAKBANK GUEST HOUSE" on the gate

Coming from the north - Ayr or Glasgow - come into the town on the A714, turn right up Windsor Road (one way) before reaching the river bridge. At the top of the one-way section, turn left along York Road, passing the old Grammar School buildings and the Museum on the right, then the second turning on the right is Corsbie Road.

Coming from New Galloway on the A712, turn right onto the A75 and proceed as above as if coming from Dumfries.
